Here’s a fact you won’t see reported in the press this summer. Of the top 20 most intense hurricanes to make landfall in the United States, 12 of them were before 1975. Nine of those hit before 1935. Intensity rankings are by their barometric pressure at landfall. Lower pressure = stronger storm.
