 Sorry, but wishy-washy statements about CO2 playing "a very minor role" in global warming are way wrong, because CO2 plays NO ROLE in global warming, because its radiation absorption/emission wavelength of 15 microns has a Planck radiation temperature of -80C, which can't melt an ice cube and isn't even heat. Just like plants that reflect green light because they can't use it, even with its high Planck radiation temperature, the Earth's surface can't use -80C radiation because it's way colder than the usual temperature range of -50C to +50C. This iron law can't be gotten around by leftist U.N. IPCC CO2 hoaxers, only studiously avoided to keep their massive cash for nothing program alive, so don't you fall for it too and let them win walking away.

As to water vapor, it can only act like a blanket and slow surface cooling usually at night if it's in the form of ground fog hugging the surface. Usually it's in the form of clouds way up in the sky where the thermodynamic lapse rate makes the air frigid and soaks up any absorbed heat, and even if it didn't, the inverse square law makes it impossible for anything but a weak thermal signal to make it back to the ground, therefore water vapor can only have a very minor role on surface temperatures like you claimed for CO2..

Speaking of lapse rate, that's the real blanket effect of the atmosphere. Most people think of it as causing a temperature drop with altitude because of conversion of heat to work to expand against decreasing pressure, but deeper analysis reveals it's causing an increase of temperature with drop in altitude because of the increasing pressure and the Ideal Gas Law PV=NRT, or T follows P at constant V. The trace amount of CO2 is irrelevant because all that matters is the atmosphere's specific heat capacity, which is dominated by N2 and O2, along with gravity and the Sun's radiation.

This was figured out long ago by physicists James Clerk Maxwell, Richard Feynman et al., but the IPCC, which is filled with losers who flunked physics pretends they never published anything in order to push their fake CO2 back radiation hoax.
